APPOINTMENT OF ENG. BONIFACE GISSIMA NYAMO-HANGA AS THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE RURAL ENERGY AGENCY (REA)

The Rural Energy Board, at its Board Meeting held on 17th December 2016, and pursuant to Section 25 of the Rural Energy Act, 2005 has appointed Eng. Boniface Gissima Nyamo-Hanga to the position of the Director General of the Rural Energy Agency (REA) and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Energy Fund (REF). He is taking over from Dr. Lutengano Mwakahesya who retired from work on 30th June 2016. Prior to this appointment, Eng. Boniface Gissima Nyamo-Hanga was the Acting Director General of the Rural Energy Agency.

Eng. Boniface Gissima Nyamo-Hanga has over 20 years working experience in the Energy Sector in Tanzania. He has been working with REA since 2008 when the Agency started its operations and has held various positions within REA including Technical Assistance Manager, Director of Market Development & Technologies and Acting Director General. He holds a B.Sc. Engineering Degree (Electrical – UDSM), Masters of Engineering Management Degree (UDSM), Masters of Business Administration Degree (MBA - UDSM), Post Graduate Diploma in Law, Mediation and Arbitration (Institute of Social Work Tanzania) and is finalizing his dissertation for M.Sc. Finance Degree (Strathclyde University Glasgow UK).

Eng. Gissima Nyamo-Hanga is a Registered Professional Engineer: P.Eng(T) No. 4503, Member of the Project Management Institute (PMI – U.S.A.), Member of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES), Member of the Tanzania Institute of Arbitration and a Registered Expert in Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for Energy Projects (NEMC – Tanzania).

The Rural Energy Board requests all key stakeholders to accord Eng. Gissima Nyamo-Hanga with the support and assistance he may need in executing his duties, to enable him accomplish successfully the objectives of the Rural Energy Agency.
