REA Annual Report for the Financial Year ended June 30th, 2015

The Annual Report for 2014/15 Rural Energy Agency provides the status of progress and milestones of rural energy activities that were planned for the Financial Year 2014/15. The report underscores operational and financial performance of the Agency in line with short and medium plans.

The Agency continued to promote, facilitate and supervise implementation of projects that were approved in the year under review and those that could not be finished in the previous year. The projects that were implemented include those for construction of distribution and service line under Turnkey Phase II; Sustainable Solar Market Packages project for eight districts of Biharamulo, Bukombe, Chato, Kibondo, Kasulu, Namtumbo, Sikonge and Tunduru; Installation of solar systems for secondary schools and health facilities; Implementation of Lighting Rural Tanzania Competition (LRCT 2014); training on sustainability of renewable energy; Construction of biogas plants; and capacity building to project developers.

Key challenges affecting implementation of the rural energy projects include low level of private sector investment, inadequate capacity of project developers to meet rural community expectations, limited number of investors willing to finance rural energy projects and perceived low benefits of investing in rural energy.
